Sherrie has taken calligraphy into a new world—a realm where she merges her inner musings, poetry, dance, and meditation to create unique abstract paintings using ink and watercolor on paper. By expanding calligraphy beyond words, she incorporates expressive movements and symbolic writing, creating a seamless blend of Eastern and Western artistic influences. Her artworks mirror her pursuit of living simply and sanely in a troubled world. Sherrie’s art frequently reflects her personal poetry or is part of her practice of painting in small handmade books. She possesses a diverse background in t’ai chi, qigong, Eastern philosophy and Western art history—all coming alive in her art.

Her pieces are displayed in numerous private collections, the Art House Hotel and the Calabi Gallery in Santa Rosa, CA. She has showcased her work in several solo exhibitions and regularly participates in juried exhibitions. She is active in Sonoma County’s Art Trails and Art at the Source open studios. Her accolades include Most Outstanding Book Design of the Year from International Publishers Awards (IPPYs) for her self-designed book, “On Softer Ground: Paintings, Poems and Calligraphy,” featuring 24 paired paintings and poems.

Sherrie shares her gestural abstract techniques through teaching at the O’Hanlon Center for the Arts, Sebastopol Center for the Arts, Marin MOCA, at International Calligraphy Conferences, calligraphy guilds nationwide, and online platforms. Her work has been featured in various publications including Letter Arts Review (interview and annual competitions), Still Points Arts Quarterly, Reverberations II, and The Marin Review.
