My making is fueled by a longing to lean closer into the mystery of things. The materials I choose can take on emotional qualities. Transparency, veiling, cracks openings and textures become tools to unveil the content of my subconscious.

Entanglement, size, shape, weight, placement, tactility translate into language of experience. The process is an intuitive and physical dialogue with just lies below the surface of everyday perception.

Why does it make sense to me? I don’t know but it does. Why does it talk to you? If it does, who knows why.

In the work on newspaper, difficult stories heard daily are collected and used as background. There is a Buddhist practice Tonglen…where you breath in what’s difficult…let it sit; include all the people experiencing that feeling; then breath out a wish ….for quiet, food, a break, whatever may apply.

In these pieces the newspaper articles become the surface and represent taking in the difficult; the work on the newspaper is my breathing out a wish for compassion.
