Baker, Sally B. – Untitled
Story of the Box
Our translation from perception, consciousness, then recognition into memory is a process that happens in our quotidian, yet is seldom translated into the concrete. In Untitled (Stone) I have attempted to capture this process, this compulsion to grasp and to collect beauty- by engraving the impression, the memory, the essence of this object into the surface of the containing box. The physical object is present as a reminder, the collectible, a reference, whereas the idea of the stone may exist in the varied, unpredictable possibility of our memory.
