Steven Hurwitz: You Can’t Get There From Here: abstract multimedia wall constructions.
Steven Hurwitz’s new exhibition is You Can’t Get There From Here, a collection of abstract multimedia wall constructions. Hurwitz has long been a multimedia artist and currently works as a sculptor and painter. His bright colored sculptures celebrate the abstract: with wall constructions sized from 12″ to 23″ square created with painted wood.
Hurwitz writes “I believe all creative expression is autobiographical and is therefore a personal discovery process, a revealed link between the intellectual and the intuitive. I try to keep it simple and most of all fun.”
Geoffrey Campen: Offcut: mixed-media work based on architectural plans
Geoffrey Campen’s Offcut, in the Project Space, is a mixed-media work, hand-drafted architectural plans altered with mixed-media layering. Campen is an architect and artist based in the Bay Area and Sea Ranch.
Campen writes: I’ve long been conflicted my role in a building process that generates enormous waste and does not often have a collaborative relationship with the natural environment—houses demolished before their time, materials cut and discarded because of the standard lengths and shapes they’re milled in, trees/forests cleared for material and also land to build on, etc. This unease shapes my work. Offcut reimagines how the built world might adapt to the changing natural world and potentially volatile natural environments.
Each piece begins as an architectural project, drafted and conceptualized with discipline and conceived for an imagined environment or environmental event rather than a real site. A structure rises and falls with the tides on pilings, like a dock. Rooftops and upper stories of a flooded city are reimagined as new ground. These are speculative studies, questioning how architecture might bend to meet the changing conditions we’re at fault for.

Bruce Mitchell Gravitational Pull: fine-art wood sculpture
Bruce Mitchell’s Exhibition Gravitational Pull presents fine art wood sculptures. Mitchell has been working with wood for over four decades and is widely known for his lathe turned vessels sculptural tables, benches, abstract forms, and his wall-mounted sculptures.
Mitchell writes: Making art is something I absolutely have to do because it fills my life with a delight. What makes that experience so fulfilling for me is exploring the connection between my feelings for the material and the sense of discovery that happens in the making of an object. My primary focus is to use experience, instinct and intuition to visualize an intrinsic shape within the raw material that relates to its own unique personality, responding to rhythms of positive and negative shapes and spaces that emerge as a form develops. I draw upon nature, journeys into dream worlds and the unknown, bringing to life to those excursions through the language of sculpture.
