Megan Broughton – Fog Apparition I – Softground Etching – 30in x 42in
Megan is a skilled printmaker committed to her craft. She is a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts (BFA, 2012). Her recent residencies include The Arctic Circle Residency, Svalbard, Norway (2019), MaréMotrice, Greenland (2023) and Kala Art Institute, Berkeley (2024). Recent awards include the California Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship (2023) and an Honorable Mention in GRO’s juried show “Seen and Imagined” (2023). Megan has been employed as an art educator for over a decade. She is now a full time practicing artist.
About her current work Megan writes:
I seek to inspire care for the climate by bringing faraway, sublime environments that are crucial to our everyday lives closer to home. My work is informed by onsite studies in the Arctic, whose materiality and deep time shapes my practice and guides my choice of materials…Throughout my work, representational imagery is playfully swept away. Portals seem to form as pictures change over the course of a series, forming new shapes and entities.
About the 2025 Fellowship she writes:
I hope to meet supportive peers, receive guidance working within a gallery, and spearhead vibrant programming. I am a hard worker and ready for the next stage of my career. I hope to collaborate with GRO artists, the other Fellow, and Fellowship alumni with similar interests whose careers I have followed. The solo show and two-person shows are perfectly aligned with my art career goals for 2025. The Artists in Schools Program speaks to my values as a longtime arts educator; it is a program I would love to support.
Megan’s inaugural solo show in the Annex opens along with GRO’s annual juried show on Saturday, January 11th with a reception beginning at 3pm. I hope many Artist Members, staff members and members of the Board will be present to meet Megan, see her current work and welcome her to the GRO community.
