Featuring a series of two-dimensional polychrome wood constructions by Steven Hurwitz, A Studio Road Trip endeavors to fuse linear forms with vibrant color solution.
Hurwitz’s constructions are in some ways maquettes, or “sketches” of planned larger works. Regardless of scale, these pieces reference a process of finding the boundaries that determine artistic intention. Hurwitz writes,
“Why this and not that? Given those limits, one thing leads to another. The lines are my boundaries. They are straight and material and without illusion. Within the limit of the lines I play with color and arrangement; it’s an agreement between the two. They are intended to be what they are.”
