Sandra spent her childhood in National Parks, places like the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Grand Canyon and Mesa Verde. Her personal background strongly influenced her interest in nature as a basis for her art, which she says, ” is at the root of my being.” She loves exploring the complex beauty of the natural world in all its abstract qualities. For her, abstraction goes far beyond what she see in front of her; it is a way to study the mystery of life. Her style is certainly a passionate product of the Abstract Expressionists. She finds herself in the process of constantly recreating herself amidst change. This is true for art making, mothering, partnering and teaching. In her work, she can express herself in ways that help her feel connected and deepen her relationship to the world and everyone around her.
Sandra received her MFA in Drawing and Painting from Colorado State and her BFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of Georgia. She now lives with her husband Greg, their daughter Madeline and dogs, Jolie and Rafael in beautiful Tiburon, California.
