Zulu Heru is one of GRO’s 2025 Fellows. He is an experienced crane operator and has been working at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena removing and relocating monumental sculptures during the L.A. fires.

While serving nine years in the US Army, Zulu simultaneously earned a BFA from Howard University, in Washington D.C. (2018). Not long after graduating he began handling and installing large scale sculptures across the country, including sculptures by legendary artists like Auguste Rodin, Henry Moore, Keith Haring, Jaume Plensa and Sanford Biggers.

After relocating on the West Coast, Zulu created several large scale sculptures for Burning Man and was recognized with a Burning Man Honorarium Grant (Burning Man Project, 2023) and a Man Pavilion Honorarium Grant (Burning Man Project, 2024).

He has participated in group exhibitions throughout California (2021-2024) and was a SEED resident in the Sola Contemporary Residency in Los Angeles (2023). He has been invited to speak to art organizations at events in California, Nevada and Washington. Zulu lives and creates art in San Francisco where he also works as a crane operator.
