GRO presents: Artists’ Exchange, “Invitation to a Voyage” – Artists Jan Wurm and Livia Stein lead viewers on an ocean cruise across colorful landscapes populated by dynamic human figures. Entering an exhibition by painters Livia Stein or Jan Wurm is like embarking on an ocean cruise. Each artist leads her viewers on a voyage across colorful landscapes and seascapes populated by dynamic and uniquely gestural human figures. While their voyages seem oddly similar, they are guided by different sensibilities. Stein guides the viewer through dreamlike scenery that is unusual, yet warm and comforting. Wurm, on the other hand, awakens her passengers to find meaning in her figures who, at times, seem connected or even isolated from their surroundings.
