GRO presents: Artists’ Exchange, “Storytelling in Wood and Clay” – Sculptors Clayton Thiel and Bruce Mitchell discuss how they create narratives of dreams and memories through the use of classical forms and traditional media.
Clayton Thiel is a sculptor of clay, stone, and bronze, as well as a storyteller whose mission is restoring magic and narrative to the world of contemporary sculpture. He loves surrealist art “because it takes the most improbable combinations of dreams, memories, and reflections, and makes them appear possible.”
Bruce Mitchell, a woodworker for nearly forty years, is celebrated for his lathe-turned vessels and numinous biomorphic forms. “My intent as an artist is to draw upon nature and my excursions into dream worlds and the unknown by giving life to that experience through the language of sculpture.”
Artists’ Exchange is a group created by and for artists to share new work, ideas, resources, and opportunities.
