The Project Space is an exhibition area within Gallery Route One set aside for visiting artists. Except for the Box Show and other gallery-wide exhibits, the Project Space presents work by non-member artists year-round in a schedule synchronized with exhibitions in the other GRO spaces.
The Project Space Program is responsible for all exhibitions and events in the Project Space as well as GRO’s community outreach programs: Artists in the Schools and The Latino Photography Project. The main focus of Project Space programming is on environmental issues both local and global. With the Earth: Arts and the Environment is an on-going series of exhibitions and educational events presenting three exhibitions at GRO each year and occasional multi-venue projects that are larger in scope.
The goal of the series is to encourage debate and exchange of ideas on both local and global issues via the unique viewpoint that art can provide. This goal informs not only the exhibition series but also our Artists in the Schools Program. Once each year the Project Space presents Far From Home, an exhibition series that focuses diaspora and exile from the individual artists’ viewpoint.
Artists wishing to exhibit in one of the Project Space’s series should email a one page proposal with 3 images in jpeg format of not more than 2 megabytes each to projectspace [at] galleryrouteone.org. Proposals that do not relate to the Project Space general’s themes will not be considered.
